· Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada kicks off 2024 Food Banks Canada partnership
· Food drives being held at Mitsubishi dealers across Canada September 1 to 30
· Totals to be announced on World Food Day, Wednesday, Oct. 16
MISSISSAUGA, ON, September 3, 2024 – After collecting more than $400,000 to help relieve food insecurity across Canada over the past three years, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) is renewing its partnership with Food Banks Canada and putting a stronger focus on supporting food banks in the communities its dealerships serve.
Mitsubishi Motors’ Driving to End Hunger campaign officially kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 1 with its dealerships from coast to coast collecting donations of funds, food and non-perishables. From now until September 30, a record number of participating Mitsubishi dealerships will be hosting food drives, fundraising events and making other donations to support their local food banks.
At the national level, MMSCAN is donating $100,000 to Food Banks Canada, which will use that money to support food insecurity programs across Canada, including in communities not served by a local Mitsubishi dealership.
“Our slogan is Drive your Ambition, and with this Driving to End Hunger campaign, our ambition is to help the growing number of Canadians who struggle to afford groceries for their families,” said MMSCAN President and CEO Kenji Harada. “I’m grateful that nearly every one of our dealerships have joined this fantastic initiative this year. It shows that Mitsubishi is a brand that cares about making the world a better place – right down to the local community level.”
Kirstin Beardsley, Chief Executive Officer, Food Banks Canada, said food bank usage has reached the highest levels in Canadian history with nearly two million visits in a single month.
“At such a critical time, Food Banks Canada is grateful for Mitsubishi’s continued partnership with the Driving to End Hunger campaign. Through this partnership, Mitsubishi has once again supported Food Banks Canada and supported communities across the country who need it most. Thank you for your continuous support and for joining our mission to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.”
This year’s Driving to End Hunger campaign will see local dealers collecting food and funds from Sunday, Sept. 1 to Monday, Sept. 30. The donations will be delivered to local food banks between Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 10 in advance of the Thanksgiving weekend. In addition, donations can be made at the national level directly to Food Banks Canada through the Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada website at mitsubishi-motors.ca/en/drivingtoendhunger
In addition to making a corporate donation, employees at MMSCAN’s headquarters in Mississauga will also be collecting food and volunteering with Food Banks Mississauga.
Mitsubishi and local dealers will announce the donation totals on World Food Day, Wednesday, Oct. 16.
